Depth

Print, June 2014, Page 32

This piece shows Depth through its use of value and texture. The attached shadows and the cast shadows on the sides of the letters create the illusion that these letters are three-dimensional. The texture on the top of the letters produce a spatial effect of pulling outward. I assume the artist did this to add to the illusion that these letters are massive and three-dimensional.

Color Harmony Rules

Communication Arts, Photography Annual 46, pg 83 ANALOGOUS Communication Arts, Design Annual 48, pg 115 COMPLIMENTARY Communication Arts, Design Annual 48, pg 44 MONOCHROMATIC Communication Arts, Photography Annual 46, pg 94 TRIADIC Each of these four compositions follow a different color harmony. The first composition follows an analogous color scheme with its use of green, blue-green, and yellow-green. The second composition follows a complimentary color scheme with its use of a red background and green shirt. The third composition follows a monochromatic color scheme through its use of different yellows. The fourth composition follows a triadic color scheme through its use of the primary colors.

Symbolic Colors

Computer Arts, January 2012, Page 67 This composition uses color through its symbolic meaning rather than color harmonies. The random colors inside the grid-like shapes tends to remind people of the video game, Tetris. All of these colors or shapes by themselves wouldn't have any meaning to it. But by combining the two together, the composition takes on a whole "new" meaning.

Non-Commercial Art

Computer Arts, January 2012, Page 125 This composition chooses to use a complementary color scheme through its use of light blue and orange. The composition also makes use of lines and triangular shapes by the "breaking" of the face. There is also a clear focal point made in the center of the composition. The piece is slightly tilted, yet still remains balanced.
